About the Finkler
Consulting, Engineering and Project Development
Finkler Ambiental has been in the market for over 10 years, providing services in the segment of Consulting, Engineering and Project Development for the Remediation of Impacted Sites, with a strong presence in the Southeast and South regions of Brazil.
Our operational headquarters are located in the municipalities of Vinhedo (São Paulo State) and Canoas (Rio Grande do Sul State), and we count with a multidisciplinary team of over 40 professionals, specialized in chemical, water and environmental engineering, geology, automation and H&S.
We provide state-of-the-art solutions for the management of impacted sites, combining last-generation equipment and the most advanced technology for high-resolution investigation and in situ remediation.
Finkler Ambiental has its own structure for the design, assemblage, installation, commissioning, operation and monitoring of a wide range of remediation systems (e.g.: In Situ Chemical Oxidation, Multiphase Extraction, Pump & Treat, among others). We have in-depth and permanently updated knowledge of equipment and tools suppliers in this segment.
We also have our own equipment for the high-resolution investigation of impacted sites (i.e.: direct push system with MIP-HPT), for the installation of monitoring wells, and for groundwater sampling.
This structural condition ensures us a unique competitive edge in the Brazilian market.
License to import
Finkler Ambiental has a permit to import remediation products and chemicals (Brazilian Siscomex). This ensures our supply and agility in projects involving cleanup with oxidizers (ISCO), while allowing us to maintain competitive international prices and to control the quality of the imported materials (through the previous selection of suppliers).
This permit enables us to immediately import any product or technology required for high-definition investigations and environmental remediation services.
Finkler Ambiental has signed a R&D Declaration of Intents in a partnership with IPT – the São Paulo Institute for Technological Research, to conduct projects and research associated to the development and experimentation of advanced remediation techniques.
This partnership keeps us constantly updated to what is new in terms of cleanup techniques in the national and international spheres, which we apply and adjust to local conditions.
Sandro Souto is a Chemical Engineer, graduated in 1994 at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul. In 1995-96 he studied in Germany, where he earned a PhD in the Management and Treatment of Hazardous Industrial Wastes. He started his professional career in this segment in 1996, working for company Geoklock. He is currently responsible for the management of contracts, for the structuring of projects and for new business development at Finkler.
Cesar Malta is a Water Resources Engineer, graduated in 2003 at Universidade Federal de Itajubá. He has a PhD in Project Management (PMI) for the management of impacted sites. He coordinates hydrogeological assessments, participates in the development of conceptual models, and applies high-resolution site characterization (HRSC) techniques using MIP and HPT for the investigation of impacted sites.
Omar Souto is an Automation Engineer, graduated in 1996 at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. He is in charge of the projects of automation and instrumentation of remediation systems, and for the development of new technologies for environmental solutions and equipment.

Management of Impacted Sites

High-Resolution Environmental Investigation
We firmly believe in establishing a conceptual model as the base for any investigation, whether ESA Phase 1, Phase 2 or Phase 3, clarifying to our clients the rationale for each data acquisition process.
High resolution investigations using MIP-HPT;
Investigative soil boring and sampling using direct push technique;
Installation of 2”, 4” and 6” wells using Hollow Stem Auger (HSA);
Three dedicated vehicles for low-flow sampling;
Development and consolidation of local conceptual models;

Precision Environmental Remediation
We focus on innovative solutions for the design and application of state-of-the-art remediation techniques that are tailored to the needs of our clients.
We are experts in the application of oxidizers via direct push, and in the development of remediation solutions that are integrated to other techniques (MPE, Pump & Treat, SVE and Air Sparging), whenever necessary.
All of our remediation systems have an integrated data logger system that enables our operators and clients to view, at any given time, their complete history of system operation.
Remediation of organic compounds with combined tools and techniques
ISCO: over 50 projects carried out in the last 4 years;
Incorporation of MIP-HPT to remediation supporto;
Direct Push:know-how from the pressurized application of 300 metric tons of chemical oxidizers;
Formulations: testing and application of additives to control reaction stability [persistência da reação] and enhance the availability of the oxidizing agent in the medium;

Application of MIP + ISCO Technology – Assumptions and Conditions
Previous understanding of the nature of the contamination, chemicals of concern and remediation goals;
Feasibility study: preliminary definition of schedules and metrics, and determination of the oxidizer demand in the soil;
High resolution investigation (MIP-HPT) to refine the Conceptual Model (Remedial Investigation);
Basic sequencing of the ISCO technique: formulation of oxidizers, injection points and depths (direct push), pressures and volumess;

Remediation through Combined Techniques
Porto Alegre/RS, 2011-2014
The subject area was a former industrial site impacted with VOC and oil LNAPL, where the client intended to build a residential gated community.
Finkler Ambiental submitted a remediation proposal for the adoption of various techniques, which could be applied either separated or combined. We carried out interventions with oxidant (ISCO) and surfactant injection, multiphase extraction (MPE), hot spot removal and biopiling for the treatment of the contaminated soil.
At the end of 2014, the area was considered recovered by the local environmental department (SMAM), which enabled its new occupation.
Management of Industrial Site Impacted with VOC
Due to contamination detected at the employee recreation area, the site’s request to renew its groundwater intake permit was denied, which jeopardized the operation of the plant.
Finkler Ambiental conducted additional investigations and pollutant dispersion mathematical modeling studies, and concluded that remediation actions were not required in the site.
The state environmental agency (CETESB) considered the site as being rehabilitated, which enabled the renewal of the permit at the water department (DAEE).
Rehabilitation of Impacted Site for Real Estate Development
Porto Alegre/RS, 2013-2015
The site had residual VOC contamination in the soil, and had already been the object of groundwater remediation. At the time, the client had decided to carry out extensive soil removal, and the associated costs would render certain project alternatives financially unfeasible.
Finkler Ambiental submitted an alternative remediation proposal using in situ chemical oxidation (ISCO), developed based on additional investigations to refine the conceptual model.
The remediation goals have already been reached and the site is being monitored, so it can be designated as a recovered site by the local environmental department (SMAM).
